Home offices. It’s become a nightly ritual for me now; peering behind the interviewer and interviewees on the evening news to get a glimpse of their homes behind them. My husband has observed that 90% of people seem to position themselves in front of a bookcase. I guess it makes you look smart. My favorites are ones where I can get a decent look at the entire room. Top of my list is William Brangham’s backdrop shown on the PBS Newshour. I love the baskets and vases above his bookcases!
We thought you all might be curious about what our home offices look like too.
Here’s Kristina, working hard at home.
Here is Kristina’s new office furniture she purchased from Ballard Designs. Just love that tailored slipcover chair with the buttons on the back.
This is my favorite angle of Kristina’s home office – a view onto her beautiful living room and her very own fireplace! Makes me want to grab a cup of tea, get cozy and draw a new kitchen!
When it’s time to get away from her desk Kristina loves to prop up her feet on her stylish and comfy armchair and ottoman.
Our assistant Lori shares her home office with her husband. Their classic mid-century modern style continues into this tidy, well-appointed space with warm wood tones, plenty of natural light and a beautiful, proud African milk tree that’s been a part of the family for years.
When her husband needs the office, Lori “travels” to her favorite island – in the kitchen – and enjoys the amazing views from her kitchen windows. Not too shabby huh?
Years ago we converted this 10 x 10 room that was originally intended to be a dining space into my home office. It’s probably one of my favorite remodel projects in the house. A formal dining room would probably have been used once a week at best. With the space reallocated as a home office, we use it every day.
I love color and surrounding myself with bright and inspiring pieces of art that make my office feel inviting and lively.
When I need a change of scenery, I usually end up at the kitchen island. Here I can enjoy the views of the backyard and the fireplace in the dining room. My dog Annie usually follows me from one room to the other, finding her favorite spot on the rug.
We feel fortunate to have work to keep us busy during these strange times and we’re so grateful to our clients for continuing to work with us remotely. We look forward to the day when we can meet with you face to face again!
