Form & Function Remodel for Mid-Century Home
Form & Function Remodel for Mid-Century Home – Lakewood
The goal of this renovation was to create a home that embraced the history of this mid-century home and also suited the functional needs of this young, growing family. Our first focus was to open up the main living area. Walls separating the kitchen, dining and family room came down, creating a large great room with vaulted ceilings and skylights – the perfect space for the family to live and play together.
Flat front kitchen cabinets in a mix of warm wood tones and white keep the mid-century vibe alive and tie into the wood features throughout the home. We chose a custom green paint color for the original brick fireplace surround which compliments the kitchen backsplash and brings cohesion to the space. A custom wood-slat entry wall sets the mid-century mod tone as you walk in.Â
We designed an addition for the back side of the house to enlarge the master suite and create a spacious master bathroom with an 11 foot vanity, lighted mirrors, a large steam shower and walk-in closets.Â
Reconfiguring the lower level allowed us to add a mother-in-law suite and additional bathroom. The expansive laundry room/mudroom also received a makeover with a new door and recycled cabinets from the original kitchen.Â
