Small Spaces, Big Personality: Powder Room Design Ideas
When it comes to interior design, powder rooms might be small in square footage, but they can make a big impact. These are the spaces where bold materials, creative layouts, and thoughtful details come to life. Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to design some truly fun and functional powder rooms, and with a few more in the works, we thought it was the perfect time to feature some of our favorites.
Why We Love Powder Room Design
Powder rooms are little design gems – small but full of potential. Because they’re not used every day like a primary bath or kids’ bathroom, they’re the perfect spot to take creative risks. Think bold wallpaper, unexpected tile, sculptural lighting, or a show-stopping mirror. It’s a chance to surprise your guests, express your style, and have a little fun with form and finish.
Whether tucked under the stairs or right off the entryway, a well-designed powder room becomes more than just a utility space – it becomes a statement.
As part of the reimagined floor plan for this Wash Park bungalow, we carved out space for a new powder room on the main floor – a thoughtful addition that adds both function and personality.
Instead of treating it like an afterthought, we made it a standout feature. Barn doors allow natural light from the existing window to flood the entryway and offer a peek at the playful wallpaper and custom vanity inside.
We encouraged our client to choose a wallpaper that truly reflected her personality. She fell in love with Schumacher’s handmade Chiang Mai Dragon – a beautiful pattern that feels more like art than wallcovering. The aesthetic in the rest of the home is calm and serene, but the powder room became a canvas where we could express her more adventurous side. The Schumacher wallpaper was a fantastic representation of her personality – vibrant, fun, whimsical and full of stories.
This project was a complete home remodel, and our clients wanted to create a functional design with a timeless style that was both fun and sophisticated. Also – they loved blue.
We created a powder room design that checked all the boxes. The Harlequin’s Demoiselle wallpaper in ink and chartreuse adds a whimsical touch, evoking a sense of playful elegance. The black and brass mirror, sconces, and faucet bring in a layer of timeless sophistication, while the bold blue vanity and floor-to-ceiling built-in cabinets complete the space with a harmonious, high-impact finish.
This powder room is a testament to the beauty of thoughtful design – where every element works together to create a space that’s both functional and enchanting.
For this whole-home remodel, our clients wanted a modern farmhouse vibe with just a touch of industrial flair – and we fully embraced that vision in the powder room.
A fun, patterned floor tile adds a playful touch, while a reclaimed wood accent wall brings in warmth and texture. Industrial-style mirrors, light fixtures, and faucets lend a sense of both function and edge, perfectly complementing the overall aesthetic.
This powder room is a reflection of the clients’ style – approachable, efficient, and full of personality.
What’s in the Works
We’re currently working on several bathroom and powder room projects that we can’t wait to reveal. While we can’t show you the finished spaces just yet, here’s a little sneak peek on one that we are very excited about:
In this current project our clients wanted to remodel the main floor of their home, keeping with the existing Spanish colonial style and character, but adding a modern, minimalist twist. We created a new powder room that reflects the style of the rest of the home by carving out space from the existing kitchen.
We have taken inspiration from the color palettes in Spanish Revival architecture which typically include warm, earthy tones like terracotta reds, browns, and ochre, paired with accents in vibrant hues such as deep blues or greens. These colors reflect the Mediterranean landscape and create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.
We found this amazing Spanish Tile, Andalusian inspired decorative motifs wallpaper in blue and orange from Mind the Gap. It helped guide our vision for the rest of the powder room. To maintain an open feel to the room, we selected a wall sink instead of a vanity. We loved the organic, natural beauty of this deep blue concrete sink from Concretti Designs. It adds a unique architectural detail and works well in this small space.
Tips for Designing a Powder Room That’s Both Stylish and Smart
Consider how the space will be used – who will use it, how often, and whether any storage is needed.
Don’t be afraid to go bold – powder rooms are the perfect place to make a statement.
Balance beautiful materials with durability and low maintenance.
Don’t underestimate the impact of lighting and hardware – small choices can make a big difference.
