From cramped to connected: a thoughtful redesign for modern family living
This full main floor remodel in Littleton reimagined the kitchen, family room, laundry, and powder room to better reflect the way this family lives, cooks, and entertains. The goal? A space that feels open, functional, and completely connected – with modern updates that still feel warm and timeless.
Kitchen & Walk-In Pantry
The original kitchen only had room for one person to cook at a time – not ideal for a family that loves to prep and gather together. By expanding the footprint and centering the layout around a generous island, we created space for shared cooking, conversation, and connection. Now, guests can sit and socialize while dinner comes together, and everyone can feel part of the moment.
We also reclaimed space from an existing ¾ bath to add a walk-in pantry. Tucked just out of view, it now houses a coffee station and small appliances – keeping the main kitchen clean, clear, and clutter-free.
Mudroom & Everyday Functionality
A new mudroom, located just off the garage, adds daily function and a much-needed drop zone. With space for coats, shoes, and a built-in charging station for phones and tablets, it’s a practical upgrade that makes day-to-day life easier (and more organized).
Family Room with Book-Lover’s Charm
In the family room, we updated the fireplace wall while keeping the cozy charm of the home’s original built-ins. The family’s book collection still has pride of place – now framed in a more streamlined, Scandinavian-inspired design that feels fresh and enduring.
Refined Finishes & Smart Details
All-new furnishings, lighting, and decor bring cohesion and a more contemporary feel throughout the main floor.
The staircase was updated with simple round balusters and wood treads – subtle changes that enhance the home’s classic, clean-lined aesthetic.
A handmade Fireclay tile backsplash in soft sage green adds a hint of color to the kitchen, while maintaining the calm, modern palette.
Appliances That Changed the Game
Two standout additions: a built-in refrigerator and a steam oven. The steam oven, in particular, has become a favorite – revolutionizing how this family cooks everything from vegetables to fish to homemade bread.
