This kitchen/family room combo was transformed from a dark, craftsman-style space with a rustic vibe into a bright and open area perfect for a family that loves to cook and entertain. The original kitchen was small, with limited natural light, a bar-height counter that disconnected it from the family room, a separated dining room, and an asymmetrical fireplace that lacked a focal point. The renovation introduced a large new window that floods the kitchen with natural light from the southern exposure, becoming the client’s favorite feature. An open floor plan now allows for seamless entertaining, with a cooktop on the island enabling the main cook to be part of the gathering while preparing meals. The unique ceiling-mounted hood, designed to blend form and function, maintains sightlines across the space without obstructing views. A new bar area near the dining room provides an ideal setup for serving buffets to large groups, featuring a subtly patterned white tile with blue and gray highlights for a handcrafted touch. The expansive island maximizes storage and seating, while discreet outlets in the quartz backsplash maintain a sleek, modern aesthetic. We delivered by redesigning the island for a more efficient use of space and removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create a brighter, more connected area perfect for entertaining. The custom banquette seating, framed by striking tambour walls, is a true centerpiece. To top it off, the groovy backsplash, fun lighting, and open shelving add even more personality, making this kitchen both functional and visually unforgettable. Our client fell in love with the whimsical furniture, which added delightful shapes and textures. The custom-built nook became a charming focal point, blending functionality with style. And we LOVE the new dining area. The mid-century modern table and chairs feels like the perfect addition in this space. In every design, we incorporate a standout piece that ties together the color palette and overall aesthetic, and here, the rug did just that—perfectly unifying all the elements of this joyful, vibrant room.
